School and Workshops

Nrityanjali is a locally established school dedicated to teaching and exposing classical Indian dance
and culture to the immediate and international artistic community. "Bharatanatyam," a highly
stylized dance form originating in South India, is taught by Artistic Director, Meena Telikicherla, to
students from a wide variety of ethnicities, backgrounds, and ages. Beginning and Intermediate
level classes are taught in groups up to six students and run on a weekly basis. Senior students and
those preparing for their dance debut 'Rangapravesham' are taught on a one-on-one basis and
maintain a more rigorous schedule of practice, theory, and repetoire. All levels engage in historical
dance theory, Indian music, and performance education.

Because the school emphasizes the importance of practice, discipline, and dedication to art,
students are encouraged to maintain regular attendance, continue their dance education and
perform in local community programs when deemed appropriate by the Artistic Director.

Nrityanjali annually offers its students a recital where all levels present their studies in a
professional performance to family and friends. The purpose of this recital is two-fold: to offer
students a time to perform their skills and progress throughout the year as well as to introduce
students to performance tactics and learn the discipline of being a performing artist.

Periodically,
Nrityanjali offers workshops with visiting artists who are acknowledged leaders in
their field. These workshops are open to all students and are designed to enhance understanding
the art form rather than add items of repetoire to the participant. Teachers and artists who have
conducted workshops at
Nrityanjali include Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman and Professor C.
Chandrasekhar, both of Chennai India.
